UFRGS-312 | Physiological Responses to Environmental Stress in Plants | 5 ECTS | Period P3e | UFRGS
Objectives:The course presents to the students the physiological basis of plant responses to environmental stresses, including abiotic and biotic stresses. The differences between specific responses from tolerant and susceptible genotypes to some of the stresses will be presented. Special emphasis will be given to stresses related to mineral nutrition, to responses of photosynthesis to environmental stresses and to the role of secondary metabolism in response to environmental stresses. Outcomes:The students will be able to understand the close connexion between ecological constraints and the physiological responses in plants, from the molecular to whole plant level. Recognition of different adaptation strategies, their advantages and limitations, as well as evolutionary implications will also be targeted. Identification of possibilities for plant management and metabolic engineering based on the mechanisms of ecological plant responses to stress will also be an expected competence to develop, as well as assessing the impact of global climate changes on plant adaptive responses. | Elective | Taught in EN | Mixed
