UFRGS-305 | Ecology, Conservation and Management of Subtropical and Tropical Grassland Field Studies | 6 ECTS | Period P3e | UFRGS
Objectives:Grassland ecosystems dominate regions of the world under very different climatic conditions. They are the characteristic vegetation type in southern Brazil, in the Pampa biome and, to a lesser extent, the Atlantic Forest biome. High species richness of many grassland ecosystems, and likewise of those in southern Brazil, is a consequence of evolutionary and climate history, biotic interactions and different management practices. This course aims at discussing processes, conditions and ecological factors that determine structure and diversity of grassland vegetation, with a focus on the Brazilian Campos. Outcomes:Aim of the course is to: understand grassland ecosystems and discuss the principal theories that aim at explaining grassland physiognomy, diversity and dynamics. discuss necessity, possibilities and challenges of grassland conservation and management. learn to apply theoretical knowledge in research and conservation work. | Elective | Taught in EN | Mixed
