|UFRGS-301||Biodiversity Conservation Field Studies||5 ECTS||Period P3e||UFRGS|
|Objectives:The course starts with an introduction into ethical, philosophical and theoretical bases of conservation, critically questioning current approaches. After the introductory phase, the different topics, spanning from conservation of single species, protected areas, sustainable use of natural resources to environmental planning, evaluation of effectiveness of conservation efforts and restoration, will be discussed using examples from the Brazilian conservation debate. |
Outcomes:Discuss with students motivation, concepts, and theoretical and practical aspects inherent to the task of biodiversity conservation. Students will be challenged to question about the usual paradigms and strategies.
