|Period P3a - Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal||Year 2|
|UC-304||Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Environmental Sciences||6 ECTS||Period P3a||UC|
|Objectives:In this course the students will acquire knowledge and skills in Remote Sensing and GIS techniques. The first part of the course (first 2 weeks) deals with the basics on these methods while the last week of he course focuses on the environemental applications of GIS techniques (namely landscape analysis) basically by working on several case studies. |
Outcomes:To know the basic principles of the existing technological systems of image acquisition, the types of digital images provided by these systems, the relationship with geographic information systems and the structure of these same systems. To be able to analyze, synthesize and interpret digital images, integrate this information of spatial nature in a GIS environment. To build the capacity to manage, extract analyse relevant information necessary for a spatio-temporal monitoring of ecological systems.
